  1. Plot : Blanche and Mitch have an intimate conversation. As the scene comes to an end, they kiss.

    Discourse Structure:

Most of the conversation is spoke in adjacent pairs. Therefore the cnversation flows and there is no awkardness or sudden paused. Example :

Blanche: You love her very much, don't you?
    Mitch: Yes

Blanche dominates the conversation, and her tone of voice and replies turns the conversation to as if she is confessing. Example:

    Mitch - Dead?
Blanche - Blanche could've answered "yes" or "no" but her response is lengthy which shows that she is confessing.

    Grammer:

Consist of interrogative utterance, there isn't that much over-lapping. Example:

Mitch: Why do you want to ask that?
    Blanche: Well-
Mitch: Don't you get along with him?

Mitch is asking questions and Blanche is assuming he already knows the answer.

    Phonology:

Ellipses: Pauses are used by Blanche to make Mitch think. Mitch uses pauses to hin thta he is uncomfortable, also shows his sensitive.

Repetition: Mitch repeats the word 'huh' whch shows his unintellegent as he cannot recognise the hints Blanche is giving him. Men, in this case Mitch, don't understand when women are trying to be flirtacious. Example:

Blanche: I don't want you to think that I am sever and old maid school teacherish or anything like that

Stress - The locomotive interupts Blanche while she is opening up to Mitch whihc shows that this part of the book is so important because it backfills her past.

    Lexis:

A lot of ambiguity and hidden sexual connatations. This is because the style of conversation changes throughout the conversation. This is shown by the fact that at the start of the conversation they use phrases which evoke desire and love. Example :

Blanche : I said unhand me, sir.
Mitch: Just give me a slap whenever i step out of bounds.

This shows that they are talking in a playful manner and they are teasing each other.

However, as the conversation progresses, so does the tone of the conversation.

The conversation starts turning into a burst of short replies. Example:

    Mitch: Blanche-
    Blanche: Yes, honey?
Mitch: Can i ask you a question?
    Blanche: Yes. What?

The conversation turns into an interview where each person asks a question and another answers - adjacent pairs.

Sexual connatations - leads to this kiss at the end.
